People are easily dazzled by numbed.

Standard propaganda trick is to get people to respond to an allegation through emphasizing how big (or how small) something is, making implications that are not supported but people don’t critically inquire whether the implication really follows from the numbers.

This was done with climate change for decades. And some people, who even in 2021 come across the deceptive claims the deniers pumped out decades ago, still fall for it.
