One thing not mentioned in the article was the fact that Britain had the first modern command and control system for fighter defence. The Observer Corps and the radar stations all reported to a central station where the data was filtered. The results were displayed on a large table map where up to the minute data was displayed. The commander could then dispatch just enough aircraft to meet the Luftwaffe.

What also helped was the fact that Fat Boy (Hermann Goring) was a bloody incompetent leader.
