The true sickness is Pat Buchanan’s claiming he is a patriot. His worship of “strong men” would have been repellant to the Founders, who believed in the need for law and custom to restrain everyone in order to protect rights and prevent abuses.

The real sickness is that there are a lot of people on the right who agree with Pat Buchanan. Don’t forget— he did well enough in the 1992 primaries to be the RNC keynote speaker that year. The GOP has only moved to the right since then.

There isn’t anything he’s saying now that he hasn’t been saying for decades. The only difference is that a lot more people now are openly agreeing with him.
