I actually agree with Bret Stephens today — the Second Amendment SHOULD be repealed. But I don’t trust his motives for pushing this argument.

And I’m totally pessimistic about the chances it will happen in my lifetime. This country is in a death grip of insanity about guns.

Obviously I’m not in the repeal camp. One, when you look at what it takes to do that, a convention, well right not gonna happen. The writer in the NY Times makes a terribly weak argument comparing removing the 2nd A and ensuring legal gay marriage. Removing is not fairly comparable to adding to ones rights.

More importantly, the necessity is actually not there. The 2nd has not stood in the way of reasonable regulations like California and has not stopped some that can easily be argued as unreasonable.

The top level solution is enact California laws like b/g checks, limited capacity, limited caliber, limited purchases, following up on 1st time felons that own guns. All of these have held up.
