It is helpful at times to be a leftist who never believed the Soviet fantasy. Thanks but the mixed economy welfare state of the Scandinavian countries is a far better thing to model our nation after.
We are learning more and more that Soviet communism was little more than a fig leaf for an oligarchy of thugs who succeeded in robbing the previous oligarchy.
I’ve always thought it was interesting that Trotsky’s assassin, Ramón Mercader, was welcomed as a hero in the Soviet Union after he finished his 20 year prison sentence in Mexico, despite the massive “de-Stalinization” campaign in the intervening years. KGB boss Alexander Shelepin gave him his Hero of the Soviet Union award in person. The elimination of Trotsky was still seen as a good thing among the Soviet leadership.
