CA’s jungle primary system (everyone votes regardless of party affiliation, and the top two vote getters move on to the general election, also regardless of party affiliation) is really difficult to get used to.
E.g., it’s tempting to vote for the second most popular Democrats in the hopes of seeing no Republicans in the general election, but too much of that will screw things up. Worst case is where the (D) field is so fragmented that no Democrat makes it to the general election.
