I hear you about the lines and that Desert Storm isn’t as black and white as history makes it out to be but Kuwait’s sovereignty was violated by Iraq. FWIW I agree completely given that Reagan-Bush strongly armed Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war. Russia uses the fact that Ukrainian land is historically part of what we call Russia to justify their actions there. I guess my point was that critics of the first Bush weren’t degraded as people who spoke out against W and now Trump are. I think H.W. Bush and his handlers were much less tone deaf.

But didn’t Bush 41 abandon the Kurds after encouraging them to resist Saddam? And he also gave us Thomas on the SC. My personal peeve with him was his decision to award the Superconducting Super Collider to Texas, instead of here in Illinois. It failed there because of fire ants and we lost the opportunity to be the world leader in particle physics.

Bush 41 was not a good president — it’s just that he was better than his Republican successors.
