re: #149 Blind Frog Belly White
Reminds me of a friend of mine from college. His family are Conservative - so much so that when he came out to them, his brother quoted the whole Leviticus ‘Worthy of death’ thing to him. He tied himself to the GOP, and remains there even as they increasingly make it plain they don’t want him. Indeed, his family doesn’t want him either - he’s basically paid from the family fortune to keep his distance. And he’s old (for his age) and sick, so he’s not going to strike out on his own at 59.
I get the same feeling about his Republicanism as I got from DF. Basically, they can spout the Free Market jargon, and rattle on about individual responsibility, but it feels more like it’s coming from being a team player, rather than a true believer.
I think DF flirted with being something other than a kneejerk Republican, but it was too much work, and would require too much courage.
It always did feel forced with him. I agree with your last assessment. Man he frustrated me because he would see the horrors of Islamaphobia, homophobia, sexism, etc but then he’d go right back to rooting for his party. I wish he could have been here after Kirk had his ugly comments on Tammy Duckworth since Kirk was always his go to guy when he wanted to tell us that his party wasn’t all bad.
