re: #143 Mark Winter

The Palin supporter has actually tried to be pretty smart:

“”Accounts differ regarding the method of alerting the colonists; the generally accepted position is that the warnings were verbal in nature, although one disputed account suggested that Revere rang bells during his ride.[8][9]”

Of course it would be rather irrelevant whether Revere rang bells or not, the real nonsense of Palin’s account would be that Revere wanted to warn or scare the British.

By putting in doubt a minor detail, the tacit understanding is that the WHOLE historical account of Revere’s actions should be put into question in order to “disembarras” Palin and HER rather unique version.

The Palinista is still stupid of course. You don’t get away with that kind of vandalism at Wikipedia.

It’s pretty much a wingnut tactic with anything where their “argument” is on the losing side: Claim that there is “dispute,” that the mainstream view/account isn’t universally accepted, and claim that their “theory” is equally valid. Then whine that anybody who doesn’t give their “theory” the time of day is working against efforts to educate the masses, that teaching their “theory” is, in fact, a means of fostering open-mindedness.
