The issues with the RCP are precisely the reason to use them - all the talk about how Trump is doing this or that well, or gaining ground has to be seen through the lens of how they’ve selected the polls to include in the average.

And despite how they’re trying to manipulate those averages, the reality is that it isn’t nearly as close as the GOP wishes it to be.

That’s a problem too - since you’ve got a GOP electorate that’s priming itself for the claims that the election is rigged or that the fix is in on votes, even though the polling shows Trump losing across the board and that it’s not even close in most states, including the battlegrounds.

A handful of polls, including a few that are sketchy at best, showing a close race are cherry picking favorites - such as Trump pimping some People’s Pundit’s poll, which still showed him losing (42.1 to 41.9, but rounding shows as a tie).

While the media would prefer the horse race, they could do just as well by setting the table with a landslide. Just how big - how epic, etc. That’d get eyeballs too.

If anything, the media still prefers to be deferential to Trump and all his issues (racism/bigotry/nativism/white supremacist reachout, etc) and attack Clinton on everything, including what happens to her subordinate’s marriage.
