A friend who lives where Osage trees grow thick, dense late-growth rings shipped me a bowstave via the Postal Service. Well, really, he slapped a mailing label and some stamps on a quarter-split log 5 1/2 feet long, complete with bark.

They shipped it and delivered it. Undamaged, though I’m not sure how you’d damage 1/4 of a log.

The scythe I got the other day came by mail, basically the handle wrapped up (the snath was strapped to the handle with the sharp blade covered) and postage put on the paper. The postmistress was scratching her head as to what it was when she brought it to my house.
