re: #152 retired cynic

For months after that election, I made it a point to smile at each black person I saw, to let them know that I had joy in the Obama win, and what it meant for them. Each one, walking through Walmart, carried themselves straighter and looked people in the eye. It was a wonderful time.

Even as a white person, I felt pride in seeing the American Dream fulfilled: that anybody, regardless of race or social origin, had a chance to make it all the way to the top if they worked hard enough.

Of course, Conservatives could not admit this, as it would have meant recognizing, however grudgingly, Obama’s hard work and accomplishments. Instead they went about vilifying him and presenting him as a coddled affirmative-action Kenyan usurper, Manchurian Candidate and veritable Antichrist.
