re: #141 klys (maker of Silmarils)

I should add the caveat that of course if it is a conversation where I feel like pointing out the hypocrisy is fertile ground, I’m going to do so, but it’s a delicate process. Deprogramming isn’t easy and if you step on the wrong trigger you undo everything.

In the meantime, keeping in mind how the general discourse strips nuance and turns it into soundbites and slogans and 140 character bits, I am loathe to bring it up in public because it is so easy for it to become “well it’s just a shameful thing that she took nude photos and is now FLOTUS” and then the RWNJs turn it around to be the hypocrisy of the supposedly sex-positive left (which we’re making progress but I don’t believe for a minute that it’s anywhere close to a solid thing) and that just reinforces the mindset that we’re trying to break people out of.

AND that’s without even going into the background noise in our culture about how women are supposed to be sexy and thin and beautiful but they shouldn’t take nude photos of themselves unless they want them splattered around everywhere and good girls don’t do that and I really wish Americans had a less fucked-up attitude towards body image and sex and all this bullshit.

Anyway this is a deep topic and I’ve said a lot more than I intended to but hopefully maybe at least something makes sense to someone. I get that this is a distraction topic and not really relevant and the focus should be on the idiot people actually voted for (even if a minority of the voters). Sigh.
