Wow! You *way* west this year, out on the western slope. I remember when Rifle was oil shale central, back in the day when they tried to extract it from the surface and distill it rather than drilling deep and fracking it.

In the aughts I played a game when I drove that stretch of I-70, count the Halliburton trucks. They were very easy to spot, being dark red and all. I think one time on my way to Silverton I counted over two dozen. Those days are over, most of the wells have been capped, and Grand Junction has been on the decline for years, once again. Mesa County, of which GJ is the county seat, voted overwhelmingly for Fuckface Von Clownstick, BTW.
