Actually I’m really surprised you’d be weirded out by “male” and female” but not “men” and “women” or “man” and “woman” since all of the female terms derive from the male ones.

The reason it bothers me is because it is purposefully misusing the language in order to dehumanize people. It’s a trick I’ve seen the alt-right types use in order to tout not only their misogynistic credentials, but to dehumanize those not like them.
