You know the saying “the past is a foreign country; they do things differently there”? To Movement Conservatives, the past is a wondrous country because (they believe) the people back then thought as they do today and lived in a sort of perfect state that we are ever hopelessly trying to restore. And it is one of the reasons why they fight so hard to hold onto these myths and legends about that past, even if the reality was monstrous and inhumane.

Yes, and there were many things that were accepted back then that are not acceptable now. We need to be able to look at them in that light.
