Like I said, I think Trump will leave anyone who doesn’t have his last name out to dry (even Jared). But it is entirely possible that if it looks like the Senate trial is going to go against him, he just holes up and starts signing pardons until the verdict is rendered and Pence is sworn in. And those pardons could be done irrespective of whether a conviction has happened or not.
The only thing that might keep Sondland from rolling on Wednesday would be an explicit promise of a pardon. But given that this is the gang that couldn’t corrupt straight, it’s almost inevitable that such an promise would be made public. And that would pretty much be the nail in the coffin, not only of Donny’s presidency, but any hope the GOP have of avoiding a total bloodbath next November.
