re: #152 Obdicut

Some of my ‘green’ friends castigated me for using disposable paper cups, telling me I ought to use something ‘reusable’ like the trendy stainless-steel mugs they had.

I tried to walk them through the energy expenditure for stainless steel creation, shaping, and cleaning while you have it versus using recycleable paper cups, but they aren’t the best listeners. They can’t think about the whole lifecycle. To them, the cup exists now, so that’s all that matters.

Ugh.

They sound like posers: just following the trends like any good fashionista. Whether the trend is actually a good idea is of far less importance than being seen as fashionable. Well, at least stainless steel can be made domestically (though such cups are often made in China, which defeats the purpose given the carbon intensive methods of production).
