USCG C-123 back in the day.

I don’t know of any direct relationship between the designs, but the C-123 certainly pioneered the now-classic formula for tactical transports: high wing, rear ramp loading, and extensive high-lift devices for short take-off/landing.
It appeared just a couple of years before the much more powerful and capable C-130 and was not produced in large numbers (about 300) but it was the mainstay of in-country ops in Vietnam.
The CASA design team in Spain got into this business in the late 60swith a small STOL aircraft called the C-212 Aviocar, which looked very much like a scaled down C-130. The CN-235 was a larger and more advanced follow-on developed in the 80s.
