I do not go as far as seeing health care as a right, but I do see it very much in the interest of society to help ensure access to health care for as many people as possible. Because regulating the health care market actually makes it cheaper and better for everyone. Some things cannot be left entirely to the Free Market.

Functionally, though, it’s been a right ever since the 1980s when Reagan signed TEFRA and hospitals could no longer dump indigent patients for inability to pay.

Ever since then, all we’ve really been arguing about is whether to handle that right stupidly or less stupidly.
