Even worse: it’s the only thing from Atlas Shrugged I agree with, that businesses being propped up against market forces is going to lead to more failure. At least socialism has the workers in mind.

To me, the Trump Administration’s regime’s coal policies remind me of nothing so much as the old (and failed) British attempts, in the pre-Thatcher days, to keep their coal industry going, even in the face of increasingly cheaper, more-efficient, and cleaner fuel sources. Of course, the economic dynamics were quite different: the British Government owned the mines, and the main “priority” was the preservation of mining jobs (and, concomitantly, union power). Here, the main beneficiaries seem to be the mine owners; the miners themselves, one supposes, are still waiting for the YUUUGE boost in their numbers that Trump’s coal-boosting was promised to provide.
