Conservatism is a religion. That is why it doesn’t change and cannot admit it’s wrong.

It has it’s god (Ronald Reagan), its prophets (Goldwater, Buckley, Laffer, &c), its pulpit pimps, its unchanging dogma that can’t be challenged. Inconveniences or contradictions in their theology (Reagan implemented gun control laws in California, Nixon signed the EPA into law, &c) are ignored.

I think it’s psychological. We approach things different because we’re liberals and they’re not.
