There’s really no evidence whatsoever to support this argument. The party never successfully impeached Nixon, yet the damage done to him by weeks of impeachment investigation hearings swung public opinion so strongly against him that he’d have been crazy to stay and fight. And the Repubs went on to win the presidential election following their own impeachment of Clinton, though it did end up costing Newt his own Speakership.

And that’s the reality of the current situation, that Pelosi is not worried about what a “failed” impeachment will do to the party, but what it will mean for her own career.
