TBH — My preference is science fiction, not fantasy — and I’m not a fan of military stories. For years, my niece and her husband tried to persuade me to read GOT, but it was the first few episodes of the TV series that finally convinced me to check out the novels. The non-fantasy parts of the story engaged my interest.

Ah, then may I ask if you have read the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMasters Bujold? Run, do not walk, to your preferred library or bookstore and grab Cordelia’s Honor if you haven’t.
