I was having a beer with a wingnut buddy of mine last night, and we were discussing how Texas doesn’t have a state income tax. True, BUT (an even he agreed with me) Texas has some of the highest property taxes in the country, and has to get its money from somewhere. For example, there are 22 million registered vehicles in the state. in 2014 alone, annual registration fees and vehicle sales taxes brought in almost $6B. It also costs at least fifty bucks to get your annual vehicle inspection, proposed and signed into law by then-Governor George W. Bush. Republicans don’t hate taxes, they just lie about it.
