To me one of the main criteria, maybe the most important one, in evaluating a person’s intelligence is his or her sense of humor. It just seems that most of the really smart, not just test smart, people I have known could make me laugh or at least loved to laugh themselves.

And conversely, you have Donald Trump, who when it comes to humor most resembles a 1930s Bavarian telling Jewish jokes, and who makes Richard Nixon look like Richard Pryor by comparison.

I’ve often wondered about punning, because my observation is that most punsters I know make me think ‘Spectrum’. Indeed, in my family the Social Sister is the worst punster (part of why she sees herself as the dumb one).
