Did Carter advocate for any legislation effecting LGBT people as President? But fair enough. I have great regard for Carter as a man and Christian.

Carter was the first president to address the topic of gay rights. He opposed the Briggs Initiative, a California ballot measure that would have banned gays and supporters of gay rights from being public school teachers. His administration was the first to meet with a group of gay rights activists. He has stated that he “opposes all forms of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and believes there should be equal protection under the law for people who differ in sexual orientation”.
