What the article points out is that it’s real easy to dig up this info on pretty much everyone in Trumpworld. Few can trace back as far as the Mayflower. So, unless you’re a Native American or descended from slaves, claiming that you have a right to be here and others don’t is all an accident of birth.

Denying others the right to enter and become citizens based on race/heritage is a longstanding nativist streak that has tainted immigration policy for decades. Trump’s revived it in the worst way, and has indisputably advanced white supremacist/nationalist policies as a result.

It’s a policy based on fear - because they fear that minorities are coming in and will have the rights that white guys have always had, and that they will no longer be able to control things the way they once did.

Exactly. But yeah a little bit of research goes a long way in this. I don’t feel as if I have a divine right to be here. I know were not if for some twists, I could easily have been German, Slovene, Irish, or Slovak. I’ve gotten to know cousins from three of those four countries and my summer vacation will include meeting the Slovak ones in person for the first time in the village where my grandmother’s father’s family lived for generations.
