Let me wish you all a happy Labor Day!

Germany (and most of the rest of the world) celebrate it on May 1st.

But whatever it takes, First Monday in September guarantees a long weekend much better than May 1st, which has a 5 in 7 chance of falling in the middle of the week or on a weekend…(Germany do not move holidays to accommodate)

IIRC, May 1 was the workers’ labor day here, too until Grover Cleveland established the Sept. state-sanctioned version to siphon energy from the growing union and workers movements at the time.
