That’s very likely my final date. Quite a whiplash from Election Day 2008.

(I can remember laying in bed in my 6th grade dormitory, around 1956, with the grateful sense that I was American at the peak of it’s curve. There was also the sense of coming decline, but no feeling for what triggered that. Perhaps just a good History teacher.)

I think 9/11 is a good candidate for the date of our decline.
