Honestly if the GOP had any brains they’d be trying to steal an issue or two from the Dems. If they were smart, they’d take the limited government mantra literally and start embracing things like gay marriage, seperation of church and state, and lessening the drug war but nope they remain cultural warriors and it’s because they have people like Jim DeMint in their party who are kingmakers who think you have to be a social reactionary in order to be fiscally conservative which is nonsense.

they need for the tea party to fail before any of that happens

tea party = social conservatives. same people. Nativists and angry know-nothing churchy types are not going to embrace anything except that which elevates their tribe of whiteys
