Ooooh! Ooooh! I know!!

March 3 is the anniversary of the official adoption of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the national anthem: a resolution signed into law by President Hoover 3/3/1931.

Why it took so long, I dunno: complaints from singers about the awkward range??

Thank you for the info.

Prior to 1931, we didn’t really need national symbols. We we’re either a good country or we weren’t. But, in the middle of the Great Depression? I suspect Republicans were hungry for anything to get people to be willing to suffer under the cause of patriotism.

When I’m president, I want to pass a law declaring that on March 3rd, all Americans will sing the National Anthem on that day, and only that day. Stop ruining its effect by having it butchered over and over. I would propose a similar thing for the pledge.
