I read that May is spectacularly unpopular right now. Could Parliament call a new election?

There has to be a vote of no confidence - that is passed - in the house of commons before there can be a forced election (Even then I think that only forces May to resign as party leader, doesn’t necessitate an election). May can be outed by her party & a new PM elected, who can but probably would not, call a new election or May herself can call an election (which she will not do - after the disaster of the last one she called early).

It is probably a matter of forcing a new election if the party in power cannot form a government. Unlikely at the minute.
