The real problem will be that our society is a wreck, in regards to having yet to build a belief in new social institutions that can hold up to the challenges we have. In many ways Trump is just the walking encapsulation of the end-of-the-line situation in which the past’s dominant institution (here in the US that would be the Christian religion) has now found itself.

Without new thinking, new art, and even (puke) a new religion we will sink back into the muck. That’s what Trump and his worldwide brethern have shown us.

One of the signs that changes are happening is that young people (those under 30) just don’t hold the same views of sexual orientation that Trump’s generation holds. Being gay, for example, is not a bad thing in the view of the majority of young people.

That is making it hard for the old paternalistic religions, given part of their schtick is the control of sexuality.
