Divorce is still not recognized…you have to go through what was then the hooraw of getting an annulment. After Vatican II, it was easier to get an annulment, but I still remember how PISSED OFF a coworker was about his father getting an annulment from his mother, and basically saying that their six children were the product of a defective marriage. The whole thing is bullshit.

And the essence of annulment is that there never was a marriage at all. The kids are bastards. (Was a bastard before it was fashionable.)
