Disagree, unlike the stock market, which can defy economic reality for years on end, commodity markets are largely driven by supply and demand realities. Commodity markets are starting to price in a recession. It isn’t just energy; metals and lumber are getting hammered as well. The market is saying that inflation is a bigger threat to the downside than the Russia mess is to the upside.

There are market forces at play but don’t forget the extent to which the energy market is dominated by cartels who also have a word in supply.
