I wonder if Snowe may have purposely timed her departure so that state Republicans — a lot of whom she’s reportedly not a fan of — would have a hard time meeting the filing requirements.

She certainly could have announced this *months* ago instead of waiting until only three weeks before the deadline to announce her retirement.
