I know a variant about the fellow who has been praying to God for years to help him win the lottery.

Finally God relents and says, “But there is one thing you have to do for me, then!”

“What is that, Lord?” the man replies.

“Get up off your knees and go buy a damn lottery ticket!”

I once heard a discussion of probability which pointed out that the odds of winning the lottery is so astronomically small that you only marginally increase them by actually buying a ticket.
