Made in 1936, at the height of the Lost Cause in American culture. Minimum bid was $450K, the amount the city needed to recoup the cost of removing the thing. Looks like they made a tidy profit in the process.

If you wanna put General Lee up on private property, the I guess that is your good right. Just do not honor the Confederacy with public money or on public property.
