I have only a shotgun, but I have no trouble with a raft of regulations to cut down on the culture of death, from red flag laws to closing the gun show loophole to proper registration (including shotguns) to holding owners accountable for the security of their firearms.

When wingnuts started proclaiming “Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” in Nebraska my county was ignominiously the first one to do it, followed by Gov. Pete Ricketts praising our county commission. Ugh.

It has to be more than closing the gun show loophole. It has to be illegal for anyone to handle a gun unless they pass a background check and have a valid license; no guns given as gifts or inherited except by those with a valid gun license; and licenses should last no more than 3 years and require renewal. There must also be harsh penalties for anyone involved in straw purchases.

As to ghost guns — why cannot those be outlawed nationwide? Anyone involved in the manufacture or sale or transfer of such weapons should face a stiff prison sentence.
