re: #3 Destro

That’s because Israel has little to fear from Hamas who was basically firing upgraded bottle rockets at Israel (most of the missiles fired by Hamas were without warheads to increase ranges). The fact that Israel has nukes means it plans to wipe out whole populations if threatened on the Syrian regime’s level.

First, I’m going out on a limb to guess that part about nukes is why your comment got down-dinged. A geographically small nation like Israel nuking a population in their backyard is a darkly hilarious notion of a Pyrrhic victory. If Israel nuked another country, they’d still get the fallout, literally. Israel nuking the Palestinians is like shooting oneself in the head just to hit the guy standing next to them.

I won’t get sucked into splitting hairs over the objective danger posed by the rockets fired by Hamas. Instead, I’ll remind everyone that the rockets were meant to terrorize Israel. Apparently, it worked. Hamas clearly wanted to provoke the Israelis, so mission accomplished. If anyone in this scenario is a villain, its Hamas, not the IDF.

Also remember that Israel didn’t just storm into Gaza. They performed airstrikes on the rockets’ launch-sites and issued an ultimatum that boiled down to “knock it off, or else.” Is that not a measured response?
