re: #151 Anymouse

No, I am afraid I don’t understand.

A comparison: Liberals are incensed at the GOP because it seems likely they will repeal the ACA. The ACA is not the best way to address healthcare issues (single payer or socialised medicine is), but the ACA is light years ahead of what we did have.

I see the Canada drug issue the same way (minus the Third World talking point from Cory Brooker, who apparently has never been to Canada if he could repeat that pharma industry talking point word-for-word in the hearing). Purchasing drugs from Canada would not be the ideal solution. It would be better than what we have now.

If death penalty states continue using Phenobarbital for executions, for example, the EU has already said it would cut off sales here (the drug is owned by a Danish firm). Controlling my epilepsy depends on that specific drug. (Many people who go into uncontrollable seizures need it in an emergency situation as well, for everything from brain injury to epilepsy.) I would be forced to obtain the drug from Canada or Mexico, which under current DEA rules is a controlled substance. (Just taking my legitimate prescription across the border last summer and back was a monumental pain in the butt.)

That makes me wonder if I could apply for asylum in either Canada or Mexico if I can no longer obtain my medications here?

And when Canada decides to jump on the same bandwagon as the EU and ban US importation of Phenobarbital because states are substituting it in for the traditional lethal injection cocktail, then what?
