Not quite the Fall of the USSR with tank in the streets, etc. but the decline of the British Empire post WWI/Great Depression, I think.

I remember the angst in the 1980’s when the Japanese market hit its high and many were talking about how we couldn’t compete in the modern workplace. Maybe this is one of those interludes. OTOH, you may be absolutely right. I just hope the planet survives the environmental damage his people are inflicting — no different from the Reagan assault.
