I remember back on alt.war.civil.usa some buffs were bitching that the movie charge on Fort Wagner was made from the wrong direction. The reason for that was, if they had charged in the historically correct direction there were a bunch of condos on the beach and damnit they’re on location, they could have green-screened it on a sound stage.

You can’t get everything right. The film got more right than it didn’t and I’m sure many of the same types of people who complain about that are the same who think Braveheart is one of the most historical epics ever. All the Scots I’ve ever talked to can’t stand it because they feel it makes a mockery of their country’s struggle for independence. It’s an entertaining movie but I would never say “Hey Braveheart’s how 14th century Scotland really was!”
