I’ve never liked hot air. I can hardly stand to read comments over there because the layout is terrible. And then there’s the content of those pages- just ugly.

The misogyny is so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Why would any self-respecting woman want to join that site and spend time around such people?

My theory: because many women manage to convince themselves that they are not themselves the target of such misogyny if they can hang out with ‘the boys’, laugh at the jokes, and act like it’s all right. I’ve had otherwise intelligent women tell me that they succeed at business, or are sucessful with men, because they can ‘handle’ the talk, and men think they’re cool. It’s disgusting, but I think it makes some women feel safer. If they convince themselves that it’s OK to call the Senator a ‘bitch’, they feel less scared when someone calls them a bitch. Just means they’re tough, right?
