I do not think the violence we have seen to be the tactics of the Republican Party as a whole, since no other Republican presidential candidate in this cycle or any other in my lifetime has ever used or condoned political violence as a campaign tactic. I view violent tactics as peculiar to the campaign of Donald Trump, I have denounced them before and I do so again here:

Political violence cannot be tolerated. I reject it and condemn those who use it and those who perpetrate such crimes need to spend significant time in jail or prison for having done so.

Trump took the barely quiescent latent violence incubating within the GOP base and unleashed it, encouraged it and gave it license. It was always there though, intrinsic to and deep within the party, just waiting for someone to whip it up and give it targets it could sink it’s teeth into.

The thing is Cruz isn’t any better, he still has the same target list of ethnic and religious others, he’s just slightly more covert about how he goes about encouraging hatred.
