Germany votes on a Sunday. And in many small towns, the local pub is the polling place, AND IT IS OPEN,

For that, they have no regulated system of bi-annual voting: state, regional and national elections are held whenever they are called, sometimes several times a year,.

We should have automatic voter registration on your 18th birthday or upon gaining citizenship, an extended voting period including Sundays, and enough polling stations to ensure no-one has to wait hours to vote. The federal government should give the states enough money to pay for it. I think we should also go nationwide with multiparty primaries, such as they have in California and Louisiana, in which all candidates compete in the same primary regardless of party, and then there is a run-off between the top two candidates. That will help prevent a tiny cadre of party extremists from effectively selecting our government.
