Tonight on my walk I was listening to my BBC Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo podcast on film. Mark relayed his experience in the late 1980s trying to fly from Kiev to Moscow. At first he was denied transit until a helpful soul said “he (the ticket agent) needs a payoff.” So Mark paid an extra $5 or so. The tickets he received were blank for seat and destination. It was a piece of paper saying he’d purchased the right to compete for a seat. And in fact, he said the airline basically said, “seats are now available” and everyone ran like homesteaders.

Maybe Delta or United should try that.
