My two gifted fountain pens never leave my desk for that reason, though I am obsessive about even forgetting to take one of my el cheapo gel pens back from my classrooms.

I really like the fountain pens, but if you don’t use them regularly they clog up. Gel pens work all the time, as long as there’s ink in the tube — which you can see. Not as elegant as a fountain pen, but arguably more useful for someone who is not chained to a desk.

I have a bad habit of leaving things at client sites. Pens, sunglasses, laptop power adapters, cell phones. If it is small and you can set it down somewhere I’ve probably left it behind. Most of the stuff I get back, the pens tend to disappear permanently.
