My mother has a pair of friends I’ll call Gary and Gary (because that’s their names) who have been in a very long-term relationship (now married since it’s legal).

There’s a lot that would appeal to them about the GOP as you noted (taxation and such as they are quite wealthy). They are both Democratic voters though, because belonging to a party that despises them for existing is a bit too much.

David Silverman of American Atheists found that out a couple years ago when he tried to set up a booth at CPAC for outreach to atheistic conservatives. They took his money, then said “nope, atheists aren’t welcome here.”

Silverman still hangs on, just like the Log Cabin Republicans, hoping that someday they’ll see the light.

Maybe they will someday. Today is not that day.
